Slave Lake Happy, Healthy Kids Coalition
Who we are:
We are a small but mighty Coalition made up of members and partners from our small northern community of Slave Lake, Alberta. We may be small but together we are working hard to support optimal early childhood development in Slave Lake and area where kids can grow in happy, healthy ways. Our Coalition meets every other month. Together we plan and carry out three community activities per year that are each focused around supporting the children and families in our community and increasing awareness of the supports that are available to them.
Where we’ve been:
Our Coalition was established during the ECMap Research Project. Though we took a pause for about two years, we began again in March 2016. We have a couple members who have been involved since the very beginning and we are always working to make new connections and we would love to add some more valuable members to our team! In March 2017, we were able to hire a coalition coordinator to help our Coalition grow and facilitate our yearly events. Most recently we were able to create a family resource guide for our community. “Watch Me Grow” is filled with key information on the critical first five years of a child’s life as well as all the important contact information for services available in our community. We are so proud of this guide and are able to distribute it for free throughout our community.
Where we’re going:
We have a great group of community members and volunteers that make up our Coalition who are each committed to ongoing collaboration with the common goal of ensuring healthy early childhood development for the children in our community. We continue to make great connections within the Town of Slave Lake and are working at extending these connections to the surrounding communities as well.
We are committed to continuing to make great connections and partnerships within the community and are looking forward to growing our Coalition and being able to continue having a positive impact on the children and families in our community.
