Ponoka & Area

Ponoka & Area Early Child Development Coalition

Who we are:

We consist of community members from Family & Community Support Services (FCSS), Parent Link, Alberta Health Services, Ponoka Adult Learning, Ponoka Literacy Society, Wolf Creek School Division, Ponoka Jubilee Library, parents, foster parents and caregivers.

Gather and engage our community members and services in order to promote the healthy development of children ages 0-5 years of age.

Where we’ve been:

Our Coalition was assembled in June of 2012 to bring interested parties about Early Child Development and start the discussion around the ECMap Research Project and our local Early Development Instrument (EDI) community results.

We have built and continue to build relationships with parents, educators, mentors, child care providers and other community stakeholders.

Where we’re going:

We have and continue to provide learning opportunities by a number of trainers and educators in the field of early child development. Most recently, we partnered with Wolf Creek School Division and Ponoka Parent Link Centre to facilitate a day of learning. Our speakers were Dr. Jody Carrington and Kier Kutiny with more than 100 attendees.

Resources Developed:
“I am Growing Up” Ponoka Resource Guide
Preschool “Here I Come” bags
Resource Calendar
“Where Do I Go” Resource Guide for parents and caregivers to help to access resources more effectively.

We have and continue to provide family fun activities. We’ve participated in the Maskwacis Children’s Festival, Dudes and Daughters Day, contributed support for a Blanket Exercise and National Indigenous Day.

We participate at community events during Family Day, Preschool Open House and Parade of Programs.

Our Coalition continues to attend, participate, support and present numerous activities and opportunities within the community. We continue to bring awareness of the Coalition and the importance of early child development and provide resources for caregivers and families. Contact us for more information at or
