Lloydminster & Area

Lloydminster Early Years Coalition

Who we are:

The Lloydminster & Area Early Years Coalition is a unique and diverse partnership as Lloydminster is a Border City serving families in both Saskatchewan and Alberta province. The Early Years Coalition is a committee that consists of educators, both in early childhood and older, healthcare professionals, local organizations, and parents. Through research and collaboration, the Coalition develops plans to spark the healthy development of children, and truly show the early years matter most.

Our vision is that our young children will have a safe and healthy community in which they will have equal opportunities to be connected, cared for, and provided the necessary support to help them develop to their full potential.

Our mission is to create a strong supportive community environment where young children will thrive and succeed.

Where we’ve been:

Our Coalition has been operating since early 2000. Some members have been active since that time and as such have been contributing to the work since the beginning of the ECMap Research Project.

The ECMap data from the Early Development Instrument (EDI) Community Reports contributed to innovative partnerships with the City of Lloydminster, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Saskatchewan Health Authority. These new initiatives brought the recognition that parents were not aware of resources that were available in the community thus continued our mission to bridge the gap.

Together we are working toward “Making Lloydminster and area the greatest place to raise a child”.

Where we’re going:

The Coalition brings community together to collaborate on multiple projects such as: sharing the community level results from the Early Development Instrument (EDI), researching community resources available to the Early Years Coalition, and gathering the required resources for the Coalition (personal, materials, spaces). Another major role we play, is influencing the creation and implementation of new policies, services, increasing the quality, accessibility and responsiveness of community services, while reducing the duplication of existing services.

Our Coalition has supported the development of initiatives and resources to highlight:

National Child Day Celebration is an event we host each year. It is a free fun filled day of activities for children 0-6, their parents and caregivers. As a Coalition we are committed to ensuring all children have the right to contribute in making Lloydminster the greatest place to be a child.

Maternal mental health is an important as the child’s health and well- being. The Early Years Coalition wanted to strengthen the continuum of support available to educate and respond to the needs of parents who experience anxiety, stress, depression and other mental health needs associated with pregnancy (pre and post). We supported the development of our Maternal Mental Health Initiative, Mothers First Resource book and Support Group.

Our resource “Discover the Family Side of Lloydminster”is a resource that was created to assist families in discovering the family side of Lloydminster and our rural communities nearby. Explore places to play, learn, and connect and find places for support. We are soon to launch a video series that will promote this resource. Stay tuned!
