Lac La Biche

Greater Lac La Biche C.H.I.L.D Coalition

Who we are:

Communities with a shared vision of supporting early childhood development and readiness for learning.

Through good community development practices within our region, we strive to strengthen working relationships between agencies, families and communities to enhance early childhood development resources.

Where we’ve been:

Since 2010 this Coalition was formed in response to the Early Childhood Map Research project (ECMap) criteria to support early childhood development in our community. Prior to this in our area, an email networking group served to link early childhood programs, parent groups and professionals with dissemination of resources, information, workshop/training opportunities, etc.

The boundaries for the new Coalition were collectively decided by community members through a community meeting and phone surveys to service providers. The boundaries essentially follow the Lac La Biche County lines with the addition of Wandering River and Caslan, as Northern Light School Division schools are located in those communities. Atmore as well as Kikino and Buffalo Lake Metis Settlements are also included. Please see the attached map of Lac La Biche and Greater Area.

Where we’re going:

Community discovery and engagement to enhance early childhood development and readiness for kindergarten as a result of the Early Development Instrument (EDI) reports and subsequent analysis and response.

Our deliverables will include:
– Sharing the results of the EDI within our communities.
– The creation of a comprehensive family resources in the format of publications and activities for the children, and parent information on early
childhood programs, groups, activities and resources as well as parenting ideas to enhance child development
– Continued events to promote child honoring and connecting families to agencies in our community (National Child’s Day, Annual Spring Fair).
– Our Coalition is currently engaged in ongoing research and development of our third Publication of WE CAN GROW – Community books. The estimated time frame for the completion of the third book is to be released in 2020 at one of our events.
