Fort Macleod & Area

Fort Macleod and Area Early Child Development Coalition

Who we are:

We are a group of community members that understand we all have a stake in supporting healthy early childhood development.
Our mission is to facilitate community action on supporting the development of children 0-5 years old.
Our vision is that our community knows, understands and acts upon what is required for health, well-being and brain development in children.

Where we’ve been:

The Fort Macleod and Area Early Child Development Coalition provides families / caregivers and early childhood educators with activities and resources to support the youngest citizens of our community.
Some of our past activities include: hosting workshops and speakers (such as Dr. Robin Gibb and Dr. Cheryl Currie), collaborating with other agencies on community events such as The Teddy Bear Picnic and the Back To School Connect, hosting a breakfast with leaders in our community, mobilizing knowledge of early brain development by facilitating The Brain Architecture Game and screening the movie “Resilience:The Science of Stress and the Biology of Hope” in the community.
Coalitions meetings continue to be held regularly.

Where we’re going:

One focus of the Fort Macleod and Area Early Child Development Coalition is helping parents and educators understand the importance of play. We are bringing Dr. Gibb’s enhanced curriculum on building executive functioning and emergent literacy through games to the community.

We will continue to promote and support enrollment in The Brains Story Certification course from the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative. Our goal is to have 100 people in our community complete the course!

We will continue to share evidence-based information about the importance of the early years with decision makers and the broader community.
