Early Childhood Matters – Edson & Area Coalition
Who we are:
Our Coalition is a group of engaged, energetic and action oriented people. We are service providers, parents, grandparents, and most of all, community members, interested in the well-being of children aged 0-6 and their families. Our mission is for the community to recognize the importance of early childhood development and together support children and their families in achieving their full potential. We focus on sharing the importance of early childhood development. Encourage and support beneficial partnerships and alliances between community stakeholders, and we connect with successful groups to bring new ideas and approaches to our area. We fully believe that there are many influences in the first five years of a child’s life and it takes a village to raise a child.
Where we’ve been:
Our Coalition was formed in 2009 with some apprehension and tentativeness. With persistence and many community conversations we were able to reach a common vision and focus which has led us to a very exciting past 5 years. We are honored to have vast representation and engagement from our early childhood community and to be actively working with many community partners.
Where we’re going:
We are proud of our accomplishments and projects in our community that would not have occurred without the Coalition existence. Two of these include:
1. For the past 7 years we have organized “Kid Fest” – an event bringing all local health, education and social service programs for 0-6 year olds and their families to one location.
2. Community and county Greenshacks – located in 7 town parks or greenspaces and 4 county parks, these are stocked with seasonal gear and activities and are open to the public 24hrs.
Our strength lies in our ability to connect with our community groups and organizations and to support each other in partnerships that will benefit everyone.
