Edmonton North Central

North Central Edmonton Early Years Coalition

Who we are:

The NCEEYC is made up of passionate community members and leaders. Current members include community parents, Edmonton Public Library (EPL), Edmonton Catholic School District (ECSD), Amity House, KARA, ABC Headstart, Children’s Services, Community Services and others.

The NCEEYC exists to help children reach their full potential by working with parents, community leaders and partners to increase understanding of childhood development and the importance of the Early Years.

Our vision is communities are working collaboratively to ensure all children have the foundation to succeed.

Where we’ve been:

The NCEEYC formed in 2011 with a small group of community stakeholders. The Coalition, through extensive community consultation, began the task of drawing the neighbourhood boundaries in order to receive the Early Development Instrument (EDI) data. Once the groundwork was laid, the NCEEYC got to work engaging community. The NCEEYC ran numerous workshops and info sessions for parents and caregivers and brought Dr. Nicole Sherren of the Palix Foundation to Edmonton multiple times to discuss brain development in Early Childhood – a focus of the NCEEYC. The Coalition also participated in many community events and resource fairs to connect with the families in our area.

Where we’re going:

The NCEEYC remains committed to bringing the newest research and best practices in Early Childhood to parents and caregivers. We are working on increasing coalition membership among community members and parents-believing that they have the biggest stake in their neighbourhoods.
