Clearwater County

Clearwater Early Childhood Coalition

Who we are:

The Clearwater Early Childhood Coalition is a group of parents, primary caregivers, service providers, community agencies and stakeholders who have come together to actively promote positive early childhood development.

Our Mission:
We believe the early years are critical. The Clearwater Early Childhood Coalition works to engage the whole community to advocate for the needs of young children in Clearwater County. Our Coalition endeavor to connect parents, grandparents, and primary caregivers to service providers, to one another, and community to community. We educate and coordinate services in a proactive and responsible manner to enhance the social, emotional, intellectual and physical well-being of children aged 0-5 in our communities.

It takes a whole community to raise happy healthy children
Healthy Children,
Healthy Families,
Healthy Communities

Where we’ve been:

Our Coalition was formed in 2013 by volunteers from community groups involved in early childhood in Clearwater County. The community Coalition has been a key player in the province’s ECMap Research Project, and has worked to identify the strengths, resources, and needs in our community in order to make informed decisions on how to best support young children and their families. In 2015 the Coalition hired a coordinator to help the volunteers share information about early childhood development and resources available to parents in our community. Collaborating with many community groups has allowed us to create events that promote early childhood development. We also attend events created by other community groups in order to share information about the five areas of childhood development.

Where we’re going:

We are happy to share information about early development through our bookmarks, “I Am Growing Up” community resource guide, and “I Love It When” colouring books at many childcare centres, community events, and kindergarten registrations.

Our Community Resources Survey for parents and caregivers help us learn what resources are valued in the community. We are excited to compare the 2019 survey results with our 2013 results to see how community early childhood development resources have developed in Clearwater County.

Collaborating with the Wild Rose School Division has allowed us to provide a Circle of Security workshop for parents. We are also organizing a Lions Quest Social and Emotional Learning Programs workshop in August 2019 for early learning educators. Working with the Parent Link and the Caroline Family Centre allows us to hold many family physical literacy play events.
