Westwind Early Years Coalition
Who we are:
The Westwind Early Years Coalition is part of a provincial entity with its main purpose to help communities see how young children are doing and to address their needs. We contribute locally and provincially to conversations on how to improve supports, programs, services, and policies that affect a child’s early years.
Where we’ve been:
The Westwind Early Years Coalition has been providing families / caregivers and early childhood educators with activities and resources to support the youngest citizens of our communities. Some of our past activities include:
• Pickledilly Circus – for preschools
• Your Child’s Brain on Technology with Dr. Kelly Schwartz
• Rest, Play, Grow with Dr. Deborah MacNamara
• 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families
• How to Teach Yoga to Children
• Outdoor Play with Christina Pickles
Where we’re going:
One focus of the Westwind Early Years Coalition is helping parents and educators understand the importance of play. As Patricia G. Ramsey, Contemporary American educational psychologist has said,”Play, while it cannot change the external realities of children’s lives, can be a vehicle for children to explore and enjoy their differences and similarities and to create, even for a brief time, a more just world where everyone is an equal and valued participant.”
