Calgary East

East YYC Early Childhood

Who we are:

Every child in Calgary East gets a good start in life.
To support early childhood development, from conception to five years of age (the first 2000 days) by working together and supporting community members (community residents, volunteers, workers, education board, etc.) who live in the 12 communities of Calgary East.

Where we’ve been:

The Calgary East Early Childhood Development (ECD) Coalition is a diverse group of partners including, service providers, community partners, parents, and businesses, who are committed to working together to create child and family friendly communities in Calgary East. By investing in the early years, ages 0 – 5, the health of the whole community is strengthened.

Calgary East includes the following communities:

Albert Park and Radisson Heights
Crossroads (includes Belfast, Vista Heights, and Southview)
Erin Woods
Forest Heights
Forest Lawn
Marlborough Park
Mayland Heights
Penbrooke Meadows

During the first 2000 days of a child’s development, namely from conception to kindergarten, more brain development occurs than at any other time in life. Attention to supporting optimal development during this time in a child’s life has been shown to result in children experiencing better outcomes later in life (school, health, relationships, society, communication). Investment in the early years has the best return of any time in life.

Where we’re going:

Ongoing and Upcoming Community Investments:

Pilot the launch of a Loose Parts Bins in one of our community neighbourhood green spaces and working with local partners to promote and share the importance of free play with our youngest residents
South Network Night – Collaboration with partnering Coalitions to plan a series of workshops to engage and provide the community with awareness various early childhood development topics
Distribute “I’m Ready” Booklets
Continued social media presence and interaction with families and professionals in sharing community resources
